The role:

As a full-time Paramedic, you will provide essential coverage for frontline emergencies. Your primary responsibility will be the care and treatment of patients under your supervision, as well as those under the care of less clinically qualified colleagues during operational duty. Collaboration with healthcare professionals and multidisciplinary teams is crucial to ensure exceptional patient care and experience.

You will be accountable for assessing and treating patients, developing clinical management plans, and making appropriate referrals. In addition, you will provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and support to operational personnel, including newly qualified paramedics and students. Your contribution will help establish an integrated approach to unscheduled and primary care delivery involving relevant stakeholders from health and social care organisations.

This role requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and a barred list check.

Please note that this role requires you to be a qualified Paramedic.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Perform the full range of paramedic duties in accordance with the company's operational instructions. 
  • Assess, treat, and manage patients, referring them to alternative care pathways as necessary. Provide home care packages when appropriate.
  • Adhere to national clinical practice guidelines and company-specific Patient Group Directions (PGDs) and guidelines.
  • Work autonomously, following local care pathways and initiatives that promote "see and treat" methods, reducing unnecessary conveyance and emergency department admissions.
  • Modify working practices to meet the clinical needs of patients in primary care settings.
  • Safely treat, refer, or discharge patients accessing the health service who do not require hospital admission.

Vehicle and Driving Responsibilities

  • Operate relevant company vehicles in accordance with emergency vehicle driver training standards, the Highway Code, and relevant legislation.
  • Conduct vehicle and equipment inspections as per company policies.
  • Maintain cleanliness standards for vehicles, equipment, and station, following documentation requirements outlined by the local management team.

Personal Development/CPD

  • Complete company-provided statutory and mandatory training, as well as continuing professional development (CPD), to ensure fitness to practice and compliance with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) standards.
  • Maintain individual scope of practice and professional registration as outlined by current HCPC Standards of Proficiency for Paramedics.

 

Person Specification:

Essential Criteria

  • Full UK Driving License (with no more than 6 points)
  • Company Approved emergency driving qualification (IHCD/ Future Qual).
  • HCPC Registered Paramedic.
  • Educated to degree/ diploma level in para-medicine or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Be committed to deliver excellent patient care.
  • Good level of computer literacy.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a team and to use own initiative where necessary.
  • Ability to work in a demanding and pressurised environment whilst maintaining a calm and professional approach.
  • Good level of written and spoken English.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and equality & diversity.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous healthcare experience within the NHS, nursing, or a voluntary organisation is desirable.

*Minor convictions, especially those that occurred some time ago, will be considered on an individual basis. However, convictions involving theft, violence, or drink driving will not be acceptable.
